Microsoft Xbox 360 Leads Gaming Sales in February (NewsFactor)

NewsFactor – Microsoft’s Xbox 360  video-game console moved to the top of the U.S. market in February. The software giant’s console had been number two behind the Nintendo Wii for nearly three years.

The popularity of the new BioShock 2 game may have been behind Microsoft’s sales of 422,000 Xbox 360s in February, an eight percent increase from a year earlier, according to NPD Group. Nintendo sold 397,900 Wiis and Sony sold 360,100 PlayStation 3 consoles in February.

The BioShock 2 game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was released on Feb. 10 and sold 750,000 units. Of those, 75 percent, or 562,900, were for the Xbox 360.

Analyst: PlayStation 3 to Smoke Xbox 360 and Wii (PC World)

PC World – Begging trouble, Strategy Analytics forecasts Sony’s PlayStation 3 will outsell both the Xbox 360 and Wii by the time things are winding down for all three. That’s not all: In a report titled “Taming the Waves: Games Console Life Cycles and Platform Competition,” the company offers specific figures, predicting everything from transitional timeframes to life unit sales.

127 million, that’s how many PlayStation 3 consoles Strategy Analytics predicts Sony will sell by generation’s close. Compare with 103 million Wii units. And the Xbox 360 lifetime sales figure? The press release strangely neglects to provide one.

Videogame makers racing to develop iPad games (AFP)

Event guests play with the new Apple iPad during an Apple Special Event in San Francisco in January.(AFP/File/Ryan Anson)AFP – As an electronic reader, Apple’s iPad has been touted as a possible “Kindle killer” but what has videogame makers buzzing is the potential of the touchscreen tablet computer as a gaming platform.

“It’s going to be a really powerful handheld game console,” said Asbjoern Soendergaard, founder and chief executive officer of Tactile Entertainment. “It’s going to be an awesome gaming experience.”

Soendergaard’s Denmark-based company is building a pet simulation game for the iPhone called “Pocket Creatures” and he said the iPad will allow the game developers to add “features that we only thought we could a year ago.”

Iron Man 2 Official Trailer – The Wait’s Over!!

What can I say? You gotta love Tony! The Style, The panache and The Flamboyancy I’ve been waiting for Ironman 2. Can’t wait to see this movie, the first one was nothing short of genius.  I kind of wish the villain was the Mandarin, but Whiplash’s no B-Movie reject.

Starring:Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Don Cheadle (James Rhodey Rhodes), Mickey Rourke (Whiplash), Sam Rockwell (Justin Hammer), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Kate Mara, Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Olivia Munn.

Plot: The world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands.

Infinity Ward execs leave Activision (AP)

AP – Activision Blizzard Inc. said Tuesday that Jason West and Vince Zampella, executives at “Call of Duty” developer Infinity Ward, are no longer with the company.

Zampella had served as CEO at Infinity Ward, and West as chief technology officer, among other titles.

Activision also said it plans to form a new business unit around the “Call of Duty” franchise, focusing on online content and expanding the brand.

The shake-up comes a day after Activision said it was looking into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at its Infinity Ward studio.

Activision did not name West and Zampella in Monday’s regulatory filing. But the filing said the company expected the “departure of key personnel” as a result.
