2012 Halloween Costumes

Each year, new Halloween costumes hit the market and fly off the shelves. Getting the best costume before supplies run out is the key to having a memorable costume. Top Halloween ideas for 2012 focus on popular movies and video games, cute animals, and revamping classic designs. The majority of these costumes are available in bargain complete costume sets but name brand costumes tend to have separate pieces available that can be combined with an existing wardrobe to create an amazing outfit for Halloween this year.

Most Halloween costume ideas start with a classic design. Hit costumes build upon that design, making it more modern and tying it into a cool concept. Each top Halloween design offers either something popular, new, or unique. Several designs that fit this description have recently been released on the market.

Lions and bees are always adorable and make great costumes that can be reused. These unisex Halloween costumes come in a variety of sizes and styles. Basic designs, such as cuddly lion costumes for infants or busy bee costumes for men and women, are appropriate for all occasions. The popular  “Wizard of Oz” Cowardly Lion is also costume that will never go out of style, with men and women’s variants available.

Super hero costumes are becoming increasingly popular among children and adults. Even young girls and
women can now dress as Batman or Iron Man. The most popular super heroes for this year include any of the Avengers, the most popular being Thor and the Incredible Hulk. Batman and the Amazing Spiderman also remain popular costume choices this year. While most of these costumes are targeted to men and boys, women and girls can add colorful skirts to the costumes, giving them a feminine touch.

For girls, the “Monster High” costumes are continuing their hit line this year. The costume line was first launched last year and featured four different monsters. This year, the girls can dress as Frankie Stein (Frankenstein), Abby Bominable (Abominable Snowman), Lagoona Blue (Creature from the Black Lagoon), Clawdeen Wolf (Werewolf), Draculaura (Dracula), Cleo de Nile (Cleopatra Mummy), Spectra Vondergeist (ghost), and Ghoulia Yelps (ghost). The popular costumes add a modern and feminine touch to classic monster costumes which is part of the reason they have been well received. Even those who arn’t fans of the series can appreciate female versions of their old favorites.

The popular app game, “Angry Birds”, has produced a complete line of bird costumes for men, women, and children. The costumes are great because they are very roomy for their size and slide over the clothes. This allows the costumes to be reused for years even if you or your child grows. Red, Black, Yellow, and Blue Birds are available, as well as Green Pigs. The costumes are also available in multiple styles, including dresses and mask only.

“Harry Potter” is also at the top of the best sellers lists. The costume line spans well beyond the main character, releasing a variety of robes including both house and quidditch styles and supporting character look alike costumes, such as Professor McGonagall, Professor Dumbledore, and Hermione Granger. Fun accessories include witches hats and wands. With a variety of pieces sold seperatly, as well as complete costumes, almost any character from the series can be created. For a unique twist, try recreating more obscure characters such as Cho Chang or Cedric Diggory.

Disney costumes for boys and girls are also at the top of the list. For boys, “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” is the popular Disney cartoon of the year and is a nice version of the traditional pirate costume. For girls, both “Tangled” and “Brave” costumes remain popular in the Disney Princess costume line. The Disney costumes include the accessories with the majority of the costume sets in the line, however, pieces are also available separately so they can be combined with pieces from home. Buzz Lightyear, from the “Toy Story” movie, has also made a comeback on the most popular costumes list, with costumes available for boys and men.

The number one costume right now for boys is ninja costumes. There are a couple of variants on this as well. Most of the costumes are  either black or red with the face covered. Several television ninjas are also available in costume form this year, such as the “Samurai Power Rangers” line and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. Accessories for the costumes are also on the bestsellers lists and include plastic weapons and special ninja masks.

The trendiest costume of the year is a monster hood. The costume includes a furry monster hat, furry leg warmers, a one piece, and fluffy tutu. The main producer is Leg Avenue, which produces the costumes in both women’s and junior’s sizes. A male version of the hood is also available in brown. The company produces complete costume sets as well as individual pieces. Common colors are blue, pink, and green but off brands have a variety of other colors available.  The monsters all have fun names such as Angry Ed and Melody Monster.

Halloween costume ideas that has been a part of the bestseller list this year will likely remain on the list for next year as well.

Zombie Apocalypse: Outbreak or Weird Coincident?

(due to the photos in this blog post, reader discretion is advised)

Are we in a horrible nightmare? There seems to be a wide spread zombie outbreak in effect and we’re getting the classic keep the sheep entertained responses “please remain calm; there’s nothing to worry about”. While scouring the internet for the “ever exciting” industrial news articles I read, an interesting article left me with the sense that something weird might be afoot.  Numerous internet publications have reported that there’s a rash of cannibalism that has spread as far as to our mates in Canada.

Speaking of washes, did you hear about the one that has been showing up in all places Hollywood (Florida)? I’m always saying to my wife, “babe this is some end of the world shit”. With the rash of natural disasters (as I type this blog post The Weather Channel is reporting on over 15 tornados that have touched down in less than 5 hours and 3 major storm cells across the country), crazy solar occurrences and now this, I’m pretty much weirded out by the fact that I might be right!

The Walking Dead - Season 2, Episode 1 - Photo Credit: Gene Page/AMC

According to Mother Nature News’s ( latest article “CDC denies rumors of zombie apocalypse” On Sunday, a New Jersey man sliced his belly open and began throwing pieces of his intestines at police. On Monday, a Miami man was shot to death by cops while eating the face of a homeless man. Then, on Tuesday, a Maryland man admitted to dismembering his roommate and eating his heart and brain.

And that’s not all, police in Canada are searching for a porn actor who allegedly killed a man, dismembered him and ate his flesh.

It feels like an old cliché when you see quotes like these, from David Daigle, Center for Disease Control, Spokesman in an email to the Huffington Post “The CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms),” Yea guy I hear you, stock up on 3 years’ worth of food and old Betsy’s getting new friends!

Glenn (Steven Yeun) - Walking Dead - Season 2, Episode 9 - Photo Credit: Gene Page/AMC

In the spirit of survival we’ve composed a few tips, SS-TM-YJ Blog style:

  • Zombies are not your friend: Everyone goes, even whiskers! I know you have fond memories of the catnip incident, but if pussy starts wilding, it’s time to part ways and cry about it later.
  • Drop the hamburger: chances are there’ll be a lot of running involved and your fat ass need to lose some weight, me too! Starting Monday, it’s fruit smoothies and rice cakes, instead of ice cream sundaes.
  • Buy lots of ammo: Stockpile ammunition! They’re no use without ammo so load up and bunker down, beside if you wanted a baseball bat you’d buy a Louisville Slugger
  • Guns are cool but Machetes never run out of bullets: Do you really need and explanation here?
  • Food’s Always Currency: Whether zombie apocalypse or nuclear holocaust food is always currency, don’t you watch sci-fi movies? A man will do a little something strange for some change and some bread too…literally.

Hope I see you next year, and to all the other sheep, “mmmare”

When new parents Alex and Penny retreat from the city and move into a place outside town, the stress and massive sleep-deprivation caused by their infant has both of them seeing things in the house that may or may not exist.  Persistent sightings of a strange woman has each of them wondering if they are suffering from hallucinations, or if their new home holds a dark, supernatural presence.  As their fragile grasp on reality spirals into delirium, Alex and Penny find themselves nearly helpless to deal with the horrific truth of what is really going in this house.

After Dark Films has made yet another unprecedented commitment to the production of eight original horror films this year under the After Dark Originals “A New Brand of Fear” label, continuing the Company’s mantra of supporting first time independent film writers and directors.  The creation of the second AD Originals slate is just another example of the Company’s commitment to the Indie film industry.

Continuing the success of After Dark Originals, the second installment will uphold the tradition of giving After Dark fans the scare they crave. The ADO 2 slate will make the genre proud, with supernatural demons, psychological killers, gruesome mysteries, and even a sci-fi sector fully equipped with aliens and a killer leprechaun.  Beware horror fans, After Dark Films is giving the fans exactly the type of horror movies they asked for!  Come and see for yourselves.  We dare you…

Top Halloween Costume Ideas for 2011

Hello ghouls and gals, Apologies for not updating in quite some time, it has been a rather busy couple of months. If you have been following this blog from creation, you would know that Halloween is one of my favorite times of year. When else can I dress up in something completely outrageous and shock the heck out of my neighbors, and this year would be no exception. Below I’ve listed some of my favorite costume ideas for 2011, hope this helps make your shopping experience a pleasant one.

As you know, fall means changing weather, changing leaves, and Halloween. Halloween is not just for kids anymore. Adults enjoy getting dressed up and playing fantasy for an evening as much as children do. It is a time for joy and merriment for the whole family. Each year children and adults want to dress up in the hottest costumes mimicking film stars, action heroes, scary monsters and fantasy characters. Below are some of the more popular costumes for men, women and couples looking to have a bit of Halloween fun.

 Top Womens Halloween Costumes:

So, what are the hottest trends in costumes for women in 2011?

Lady Gaga is still a great costume; women can put on just virtually anything when imitating her. You can dress up as a man like she did at the 2011 MTV VMA’s, or wear Lady Gaga’s adult tuxedo outfit. To accessorize put on dramatic eye liner, get a wig and wear something outrageous.

Another star that is popularly emulated is the Katy Perry. There are several such as, the Candyland costume, or Katy’s Cupcake Bra outfit. Different colored wigs are part of her outfits for Halloween, which makes the costumes fun.

And don’t forget dressing up as the infamous Snooky from Jersey Shore in a black and pink leopard costume. STD’s are not included you’ll have to get those on your own.

The royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was a major event in 2011, so it is no surprise that a replica of the princess’s wedding dress is a popular woman’s Halloween costume.

Top Mens Halloween Costumes:

Angry Birds get ready to go! This is a popular costume for men who spend hours playing the Angry Birds game. King Pig, Black Bird and Red costumes are new for 2011.

Car’s Lightening McQueen is still popular for 2011, as is the Evil Gnome adult costume.

You can dress as the Shock Rock adult costume and scare everyone in the neighborhood.

The Bull Rider costume is fun and actually looks like a man riding a bull. This costume may limit sitting down, but who wants to sit on Halloween, anyway.

The Green Body Suit should probably be worn by someone in good physical condition, as it is a tight-fitting jumpsuit from head to toe.

Mortal Kombat costumes and Scream costumes are new for 2011, and the Chong Deluxe (Cheech and Chong) costume is a fun outfit representing the stoned-out days.

Knock, Knock, Who’s There? Pee Wee! Pee Wee who? Pee Wee Herman, the pasty face “Revenge of the Nerds reject”  is back for some strange reason and he’s more popular than ever.

Men are still wearing action heroes, Such as Batman, Superman and Indiana Jones costumes never seem to go out of style for men’s Halloween costumes.

Couples Halloween Costumes:

The President and First Lady are always popular costumes for couples, so dress up as Barack and Michelle Obama, George and Laura Bush are still popular.

The Royal Couple costumes are popular for 2011 as stated before.

Fun couples Halloween costumes include Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and funny Plug and Socket couples costume.

Couples still like dressing as Adam and Eve, or Anthony and Cleopatra. The Jack Sparrow and Angelica costumes are fun, as are the Vampire and Vampiress costumes.

Popeye and Olive Oyl are great throwback costumes. Anyone for Kermit and Miss Piggy? Or how about the Madd Hatter and Alice in Wonderland couples costumes?

Expensive Halloween Costumes:

For the true fans of Halloween that want to go all out and get the most realistic-looking costume possible, regardless of the expense this is your section.

You can purchase the Darth Vader adult costume that costs nearly $800, plus the cost of accessories.
The Transformer Bumblebee 3-D Theatrical adult costume is more reasonable at only $300 with its robotic printed jump suit and helmet with eyes that actually light up.

Ladies might like the Batgirl costume costing around $400 that includes leotard, boot tops, corset, eye mask, gloves and cape. Pair this costume with knee-high stiletto boots for an even sexier Halloween costume.

The Star Wars Chewbacca adult costume is a steal at $450 for this fuzzy, lovable character. It has a fur-covered body suit, overhead mask, hands, and sash to complete the look of Chewbacca.

Discounted Costumes:

At the other end of the spectrum are great costumes at discounted prices. The popular costumes that can be bought for far less include Angry Bird, Green Lantern costumes, Egyptian Mummy and Deluxe Dracula. Prices for a discounted Halloween outfit range anywhere from $30 to $50.

There are many cute and fun infant and toddler discounted costumes. Animals with ears, Disney, movie characters, superhero’s, pirates and Star Wars outfits are all available in infant and toddler sizes.

Official Licensed Halloween Costumes:

One of the most popular officially licensed costumes for Halloween this season is the range of Avatar costumes, which includes the Jake Sully and Princess of Pandora costumes. There are a full range of licensed costumes in the Avatar series.

Children will love the officially licensed costumes from the Mavel and DC Collection. Wolverine, Captain America, Thor, Wonder Woman and Silk Spectre are all popular choices this year.

The Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Smurfs collection have now official Transcends, and Lets me know that I am officially getting old.

Popular villains such as The Joker, Agent Smith from The Matrix and Doctor Evil are sure to turn a few heads and inspire a “Yah Baby” or two.

Most costumes for children are priced in the $30 to $50 range and in most cases very life-like.

Halloween Fun:

Whether you are going to shell out big bucks or buy a great low priced costume this Halloween, one thing is for, there are more than enough fun and interesting costume to choose from. There are fun and interesting costumes in many price ranges that will make Halloween a fun day.

Neptune, New Jersey, March 16, 2011 — Crystal Visions Entertainment has just released the world’s first Jewish horror movie, Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride, on DVD. It features a Rabbi Hero wielding his Torah and Star of David in a fierce battle between supernatural good and evil.

“Horror movies have historically been primarily Roman Catholic but Satan and demons started in the Old Testament, The Torah, at the creation of the earth, so they pre-date Christianity” says Writer-Director Warren F. Disbrow. “Why not do a Jewish horror film then? Why not have a Rabbi as the hero instead of a priest?”

In Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride, the latest thriller by Disbrow, he does just that. From the start we are introduced to a satanic supernatural serial killer known simply as Hate, who causes all hell to break loose in a violent battle between good and evil, pitting Rabbi Shaw (Bret Warshawsky ) and detectives Fletcher (Paul Kellogg) and MacNee (Dan Griffin) up against the unstoppable Hate in his war against Judaism and Christianity.

Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride is the 6TH feature film written and directed by Disbrow, who is based out of New Jersey, and it represents his biggest movie to date. With a running time of nearly two hours and filmed over a two year period, Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride is packed with action, suspense and bloody supernatural confrontations.

“I love horror movies and my goal is to make good ones” says Disbrow. “As for the religious aspects of the film if you read the Bible it is loaded with cruelty and violence and supernatural events; even babies being slaughtered by soldiers under orders, that sort of thing. Look how ugly and bloody Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ was and that wasn’t even a horror film!”

The main force of evil in Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride is Hate himself, who first appeared in the feature film Haunted Hay Ride which was also written and directed by Disbrow. Haunted Hay Ride was the winner of the Best Feature Film for 2009 at the Rutgers Film Festival.

“In Haunted Hay Ride” says Disbrow, “Hate began his career by murdering his sadistic police officer father and dismembering him. He then drilled holes in his own head with an electric drill and bolted a gleaming skull Halloween mask to his face, permanently erasing who he was as a human being. He then went on a savage killing spree that ended up at a Halloween Farm’s Haunted Hay Ride where he began butchering both the farm workers and the customers. In that first film Hate is still almost human, though we did give him a creepy inhuman voice. In Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride, Hate has a metamorphosis into a full blown satanic creature and as his blood lust grows and he becomes more spiritually evil, he starts targeting and murdering Christians and Jews.”

The Rabbi is the only one who knows that these murders are being perpetrated by an evil supernatural entity. When Hate surrounds the Jewish temple with a wall of fire, trapping everyone inside, so he can kill all the faithful who have sought sanctuary there: “The Rabbi turns to the Torah to find ways of protecting his people, doing as God directed Moses to do for Passover to protect the first born during God’s plagues on Egypt” says Disbrow.”

Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride was produced by Visual Experiences Motion Picture Company LLC, a New Jersey based feature film Production Company. The company plans to continue making horror films with the next one slated to begin shooting in the summer 2011. “Our ultimate goal is to make one, possibly two, movies a year” says Disbrow.

Hate’s Haunted Slay Ride is being released by Crystal Visions Entertainment LLC, who released Haunted Hay Ride. Disbrow’s previous movies have gotten world wide release by EI Entertainment, Legacy and Troma.

Sample reviews of Warren F. Disbrow movies :

“Scarlet Moon” (2006):
“If Warren F. Disbrow is comparable to a genre David Lynch, then SCARLET MOON is his DUNE. Dripping with ambition, dense with ideas and attempting the idiosyncratic…Warren F. Disbrow Jr. represents the reason independent film continues to thrive. Outside the mindless mainstream of demographically determined moviemaking, here is a man who plays by his own arcane rules and put his own unique stamp on even the most tired of terror tenets. And if that’s not the definition of ‘auteur’, it’s hard to imagine what is. Warren F. Disbrow is indeed an auteur. SCARLET MOON is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.” – Bill Gibron, DVDTALK.
“Wildly, weirdly resourceful director Warren F. Disbrow helms this deranged horror comedy of apocalyptic proportions” – Turner Classic Movies.
“Headed by Warren F. Disbrow in the seat of the writer, director, all around do-everything guy, you just can’t go wrong” – Reviewer Marc Patterson.

“Invasion for Flesh and Blood”(3rd re-release 2005):

“Genius” – NY Times.

“When genius arrives on your doorstep it has to be acknowledged. Warren F. Disbrow , we salute you and your amazing movies!” – Bill Gibron, DVDTALK.

“Warren Disbrow knows what he audience wants and delivers it” – Flesh and Blood Magazine, England.

“Warren Disbrow is a genius, his films are fantastic! Warren Disbrow is a true auteur in every sense of the word” – Netherlands review.

“Haunted Hay Ride: The Movie” (2009):

“There hasn’t been an executioner this obsessed with slaughter since Jason faced off with Freddy. Disbrow comes up with a near classic” – DVDTALK

“From the beginning you are sucked into what turns out to be an
entertaining, fun filled gorefest that even the squeamish will enjoy” – Zacherley’s Recommendations

“Made me want to climb in and get lost in the fun” – The Angry Princess

“Gory and yet sweetly nostalgic at once, it’s homestyle raw but truly indie effort should beat ZACK AND MIRI at their own game” – Redbank Orbit

“Haunted Hay Ride hit the ground running and did not slow down” – Science Fiction Society of Northern NJ

“As a writer/film critic, there are times when I come across something so awe inducing, I do not even know where to start when reviewing it” – Dan Stein, XOMBA

Battle Los Angeles – Secret TV spot

I Saw “Skyline” and contrary to the reviews I loved it. This movie for some reason or the other is reminiscent of the aforementioned. I notice that there common theme for quite a bit of the upcoming movies, should we worry that life would imitate art in this instance also. None the less, I’m a big horror and Sci-Fi buff, so needless to say when this drop I’ll be there. Hope you enjoy the trailer.
